From the very beginning, God has been at work forming men. And He is still at work in us today. Yet we live in a world that is constantly competing for our attention and influencing the men we are becoming. Our work, our schedules, our relationships, our successes, our struggles, our culture, and the things we give our time and attention to all have the ability to shape us.

In the midst of everything competing to shape us, are we allowing God to form us into the men He created us to be? 

In Genesis 2:7, we read that “the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.” The Hebrew word used for formed is yatsar (יָצַר), meaning to form, fashion, or shape, the same kind of language used to describe a potter shaping clay. It reminds us that we were created by a God who forms intentionally and with purpose.

And His forming work in us is not finished.

As men, we have to be willing to put ourselves back in the hands of the One who formed us, allowing Him to shape our hearts, challenge us, strengthen us, and continue forming us into the men He has called us to be.
